2010 Accomplishments

2010 Accomplishments of the Laurel Highlands Conservation Landscape Initiative

Ohiopyle Borough & State Park

·         Completed first of its kind Master Plan and Implementation Strategy between Ohiopyle Borough and Ohiopyle State Park.

·         Built $1.2 million in “green infrastructure” improvements in the Borough to reduce stormwater runoff and improve pedestrian, bike and car access.

·         Fully funded and nearly completed construction on complete renovation of “Stewart on the Green” community park.

·         Awarded contract for Route 381 safety and pedestrian access improvements between Ohiopyle Falls and Borough businesses.


Great Allegheny Passage

·         Completed Preservation Plan for all Trail Towns.

·         Yough Park improvements in Connellsville.

·         Trail improvements in South Connellsville.


Recreation Infrastructure

·         Renovated northern section of Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail

·         Improved water infrastructure at Laurel Hill State Park

·         Re-built Linn Run Road

Conservation

·         Protected 137 acres that includes 2,000 feet along Laurel Hill Creek adjacent to Laurel Hill State Park.

·         Convened over 120 conservationists for a day long workshop and networking session.

·         Supported the successful designation of Laurel Hill Creek as a critical water planning area.

Intrepretation

·         Developed “Discover Fall” interpretative driving tour.

·         Developed improvement plan for Spruce Flats Bog (implementation in 2011)

Stonycreek-Quemahoning

·         Supported “Lift Johnstown”

·         Constructed nearly a mile of the Jim Mayer trail, Johnstown.

·         Supported design of Festival Park, Johnstown.

·         Quemahoning Dam whitewater release valve constructed and undergoing testing.
